Position: Environmental Data Management Officer 

The Company 
 
The Hen Harrier Programme Ltd. is responsible for the rollout of the new Agri-Environment Co-operation scheme in three areas in Ireland – ACRES Breifne, ACRES Leinster and ACRES Munster South Connacht. 

We aim to deliver high quality services to the farmers involved in the ACRES Co-operation scheme, by using innovative and cutting-edge technology and techniques. 
 
It is our responsibility to assess 80,000 ha of commonage during the next 5 years and to do this we are using both traditional walk over assessments and modern technology. Drones are being used to identify habitats and areas of interest in commonages, helping our team on the ground to get a better understanding of the issues on the site in the limited time available. 

Using this technology, we can deliver payments for ecosystem services and identify opportunities for effective actions to deliver improved environmental outcomes in an efficient. 

Essential Functions: 

The Environmental Data Management Officer’s responsibilities include. 

• identify habitats and areas of interest in commonages through the generation of maps and remote sensing analysis using, primarily, the drone imagery acquired. In summary, the candidate will be responsible for: 
• Supporting the commonage assessments through remote sensing/processing of aerial imagery.  
• Producing deliverable data products (maps and pre-survey information) for field work surveys. 
• Contributing to the provision of interpretations and reporting to project management team. 
• Analysing data, including statistical and GIS-based examinations. 
• Management of a CRM platform to inform risk management, identification of training and mentoring needs, the targeting of actions and the screening of proposed Non-Productive Investments and Landscape Actions.  

Required Job Qualifications 

• Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geographic Information Science or similar field. 
• Intermediate level in R (or willing to improve if on basic level); 
• Experience in geospatial analysis and mapping (QGIS; ArcGIS or R programming language).

Education and Experience 

• Familiarized with the analysis of ecological/environmental data. 
• Experience working with farmland habitats, particularly peatland/heathland (field work and/or habitat mapping) 
• Experience with databases and data management is essential.
• Experience in environmental modelling and remote sensing is a plus. 
• Ability to work as part of a team is essential. 

Salary 

• Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
• Annual leave is 22 days per year. 
• This position is based in the Company’s head office in Oranmore, Co. Galway.
