Environmental Project Manager

Position: Environmental Project Manager

Location: The Burren region, Co. Clare

We are happy to invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for a fixed-term, 5-year contract position as Environmental Project Manager of the ACRES Burren Aran Co-operation Project (BUA CP) with High Nature Value Services (HNVS) Ltd (a non-profit making company).

This is an exciting, creative and impactful role, working with a small, dedicated team to deliver real environmental benefits for the Burren, Aran Islands and south-west Galway, considered to be among Ireland’s most important heritage landscapes.

This role will involve strategic planning, project co-ordination, stakeholder liaison and reporting, among other things. It will appeal to a dynamic, engaged and committed individual who is highly organised and experienced in working with farmers, farm advisors, scientists and public authorities.

Project Description

Arising from the work of the award-winning Burren Programme and Caomhnú Árann projects, the ACRES Burren Aran Co-operation Project (BUA CP) works with farmers in managing and conserving the rich ecological, archaeological, geological and cultural heritage of the Burren, Aran Islands and part of south-west Galway.  BUA CP is financed by the EU and the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine (DAFM) through the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

BUA promotes farming for conservation through result- and reward-based initiatives.  Farmers receive payments for species-rich pastures where fields with higher scores receive higher payments.  Farmers are also funded for carrying out site enhancement works that can help farmers manage their farm, address environmental threats to specific habitats and so contribute to increasing their environmental health scores.  Such tasks, nominated by the farmer, include removing immature scrub from species-rich pastures, repairing walls, installing gates, improving water supplies, controlling invasive species and enhancing access.
